What is the average cost of new gutters?

HomeAdvisor estimates that homeowners spend on average between $570-$1,255 on gutter installation. When installing new gutters, you will need to budget for two things:

  1. Gutter Installation
  2. Gutters and Materials

Gutter Installation and Materials

Gutter installation includes the cost of the labor needed to put up your new gutters. The gutters and materials costs include all materials needed during the installation process – from the gutters themselves to the hangers, screws, splash blocks, and other hardware.

The cost of labor will vary by the scope of the job. The size and unique features of your home, the current condition of your fascia board and soffit, and the type of gutter system you want to have installed all factor differently into the price of a job.

Size and Features Affect Cost

Do you have multiple stories? Does your home have lots of inside and outside corners, hard to reach eaves? These things will affect the cost of labor and the cost of the gutters. A basic ranch style home will have a lower installation and materials cost than a multi-story Victorian home.

Conditions of Current Hardware

If you haven’t cleaned your gutters in a long time, animals may have made a home in your gutters. Wild animals living in your current gutters will need to be removed and will add to the cost of your job.

If your gutters have pulled away from your home, your fascia and soffits may have been exposed to the elements, causing mold, mildew and wood rot. This can also lead to mold in your rafters, roof decking, and shingles, which will also require maintenance. If the installer needs to replace any or all of these parts of your home in addition to installing new gutters, you may be looking at a much higher cost of labor.

Types of Gutters

As we have posted before, there are many different types of gutters. The material, shape, and size of your gutters will affect the cost.

It is also important to consider the long-term cost of gutters. Using a cheaper type of gutter may mean greater maintenance costs in the long run due to leaks, rust, and buckling.
